The Department of Shalya Tantra at the Faculty of Ayurveda, Banaras Hindu University, established in 1963, is a pioneer in Ayurvedic surgical education, research, and clinical services. Known globally for reviving and advancing Ksharasutra therapy for fistula-in-ano, the department has also developed innovative techniques like IFTAK for complex cases.
It houses the National Resource Center on Ksharasutra Therapy, catering to over 30,000 patients annually with modern diagnostic tools like 3D-TRUS and Anorectal Manometry. The department integrates traditional Ayurvedic approaches with modern surgical methods to manage anorectal and other surgical diseases effectively.
